60 years with the masters of testing: Petr Buzek

Our next "master of testing" held a number of professional and managerial positions at SZÚ and played a significant role in transforming SZÚ into a modern certification authority of European standing.

Petr Buzek joined Strojírenský zkušební ústav (SZÚ) on January 1, 1993, bringing with him 18 years of experience in the technical field. He started as a test technician specializing in compressors, but soon became a key figure in establishing a new testing facility in Brno. After the split of Czechoslovakia, there was no testing infrastructure for refrigeration technology in the Czech Republic—until then, it had only existed in Slovakia. In cooperation with CTU, Czech manufacturers, and the Slovak testing institute, he and his colleagues managed to quickly build a fully functional and modern testing facility for refrigeration equipment.

Over the years, Petr Buzek rose through the ranks at SZÚ—from head of a technical group, to certification expert, and eventually to head of the entire product certification department.

“In my 30 years at SZÚ, I’ve witnessed many legislative changes. I had to master every law, regulation, and amendment in detail.”

Throughout his decades at SZÚ, he experienced the transition from national product approvals under Act No. 30/1968 Coll. to full harmonization with European legislation and SZÚ’s designation as a Notified Body of the EU. He played an active role in implementing new regulations, participated in numerous expert trainings, and significantly contributed to SZÚ’s reputation as a respected certification authority.
