Certification and inspection of scooters and electric scooters

Kick scooters are very complex products, on which many tests have to be done to verify their full functionality, robustness and durability. Your kick scooter should meet all the requirements we mention here. It is the responsibility of the manufacturers to demonstrate conformity of their products to the applicable standards and to declare that these products meet all the requirements laid down. Generally, the manufacturers can demonstrate conformity of their products in three ways:

What is tested:

• quality of the design/construction of kick scooters
  (protruding components and edges, etc.)
• parts moving against each other
  (folding mechanism, sliding mechanism, etc.)
• steering system
  (effectiveness, strength)
• deck
• bearings
• axles
• wheels
• self-locking fixings
• mechanism to reduce the speed
• strength
  (static load test, steering column, drop test, impact test, endurance testing, etc.) 

What else is tested on electric scooters (in addition to the above)?

• lectrical safety, including IP protection
• functionality
• EMC (electromagnetic compatibility)
• vibration resistance for electrical functions and components

What is assessed:

• accompanying documentation
  (technical descriptions etc..)
• instructions
• marking, packaging
  (completeness, durability)

The most frequently occurring problems:

• deck grip
• construction strength
• insufficient documentation, instructions and marking
